Fractal Quintet Reviews
“Libby’s exceptional composing skills coupled with her unique guitar playing
style makes her band “Fractal” sound totally original. The African and Brazilian
influenced rhythms are very accessible.”
> Jerry Hahn
"Its jazz, man," succinctly states Fractals bio. But don't be so humble-Fractal is also one of the Rose City's finest jazz-fusion outfits. Led by guitarist Libby Roach and bassist Nathanial Shortz, the groups rotating collaborators allow its songs to veer into various realms, from traditional be-bop to 70s fusion.
> Dave Clifford >> WILLAMETTE WEEK
From your days of hardcore math, you might remember that a fractal is an infinitely repeating pattern that may produce shapes, forms and surfaces that don't fit into normal geometry. Fractal is a modern-jazz outfit applying this to nightclub bebop.
> (RS) >> WILLAMETTE WEEK |
We are prepared to play three 45 minute sets. Repertoire includes a mix of cleverly arranged original compositions and select covers by Bjork, Blondie, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Donald Byrd, Miles Davis and The Screaming Headless Torsos.
No surprises here - just
your basics for a quintet.
